System requirements

Check operating system, hardware, free disk, and supported agent baselines before configuring AIF.

The public CLI quickstart supports macOS or Linux. The current full local model has the Apple Silicon requirements below.

Full local model

Requirement Supported configuration
Operating system macOS
Processor Apple Silicon with working Metal acceleration
Unified memory 16 GB minimum; 24 GB recommended; 32 GB for heavier local workloads
Free disk 10 GB for the first installation; 15 GB for normal updates and rollback

The Q4_K_M model download is 5.17 GiB. It is memory-mapped from disk; the engine keeps an 8 GB memory governor rather than allocating the model as a second private memory copy.

Performance reference

On an Apple M5 with 16 GB unified memory, a 311-token regression prompt measured a 2.33-second warm median end-to-end decision time and a 2.81-second cold average. A decision after AIF’s five-minute idle unload can take about 7.9 seconds while the checkpoint reloads. Larger, uncached agent contexts take longer.

Current local model

The model is post-trained from Zyphra’s ZAYA1-8B base model, pinned at revision 67d34da515b30409ee8daa67c3605c4402d03f6f. It uses a 32,768-token runtime context and Q4_K_M quantization.
